Grounding

“The earth is part of your cosmic body, if we disconnect from it, we disconnect from our biological rhythms. Grounding synchronizes your biological rhythm with mother earth and thus the entire cosmos.” (Deepak Chopra)

Italian shoes, sneakers, pumps, even barefoot-shoes we put on our feet. But how often do you actually walk around barefoot?

“Plant your bare feet on the ground and you will heal.” In his book “Earthing” Clinton Ober describes the story of his discovery of what has always been common knowledge with indigenous tribes all around the globe: The importance of grounding. Grounding means to put your bare feet on the ground, to be in contact with Mother Earth, Gaia. What for? To absorb electrons through your feet into your body, which support the functions of your organs and cells and balance all your physical systems. If we put on shoes we lose our electrical ground with the planet.

Growing up close to a Native American community he witnessed a girl suffering from Scarlet fever. Modern doctors said there was nothing they could do, but the tribes elders dug up dirt, mixed in some straw and placed her on it. After a few days, the girl was healthy and on her feet again. “Take of your shoes, they make you sick”, he heard someone saying.

The invention of synthetic rubber in the 1960s Ober literally calls the most destructive invention ever made. “We are creatures of Mother Earth but now we walk insulated from her all the time.”

Having worked in the cable industry for a long time, Ober knew that if cables are not grounded, they create havoc on all radio communication. When he fell sick, he started wondering if shoes keep us from being naturally grounded. In a self experiment he bought a role of metal duct tape, taped it across his bed, connected it to a wire, threw the other end out the window and grounded it outside. “I slept like a baby for the first time in decades”, he recollects. Being laughed at by scientist he finally found an anesthetist, who agreed to conduct a study - only to prove him wrong. They grounded 60 people with remarkable health results.

According to physicist Geatan Chevalier are we living in a battery. The surface of Mother Earth is charged negatively. The ionosphere –  a layer where the atmosphere meets space - is constantly ionized by the sun. The rays of the sun split the molecules of the ionosphere in two – in a positive and a negative charge. Lightening transports the negative charge down to earth, the positive charge stays up there.

If we are not grounded, we absorb lots of electro magnetic radiation from our modern devices and wifi. These electromagnetic fields (EMF) disturb our electromagnetic balance: we get electrically charged! “Running around with body charged with 20 volts definitely isn’t good”, Chevalier says, “but luckily Mother Earth has a natural build in system to ground our bodies. Her negative charge.” If we stand barefoot on the earth, our body is conductive and absorbs electrons. Fun fact: if you are standing barefoot on the earth and you touch someone who is wearing shoes, they get grounded too!

“We don’t have arthritis, cancer and heart diseases, what it comes down to is: we have a ton of inflammation in the body. It’s all an inflammatory process”, explains cardiologist Steven Senatra. “Collagen stores and releases electrons when we injure ourselves. Later, free radicals are needed to clean up the injured area”, he explains. “But if there are too many free radicals they will leak into our tissue and steal electrons from healthy cells, damaging them in the process. A chain reaction starts that creates chronic inflammation. But if the body is grounded, you can’t have inflammation. If you touch the earth with your bare feet, the body saturates with electrons basically so fast, you can’t even measure it”, Senatra continues. In addition, we need electrons for energy. Standing 15 minutes barefoot on the ground is enough to recharge your body. But not only that: Mother Earth’s electrons also code our red blood cells, so they repel each other, stop clumping and allow the blood viscosity to go down. The thinning of the blood may even be the reason why all biological systems go into balance, according to Senatra. Studies show how grounding wires improve the health of preterm babies, helps with autism, and pain. But it is not only the electron of the earth which affect us, it is also the electrical rhythm of the earth. Both are important to set our biological clocks.
